I posted on the other site but has anyone else had issues with fees and getting your refund. Showing 40$ fee for simple 1040ez and took 282.04 out of my account. They sent me an email for refund request but it will not go through with my email? It's the email they sent the refund request to and the only email I have. If we can get enough signatures on this maybe they will respond quicker. They sure took my money quickly!

Boycott Chinese Fintech.

Updated by user Jan 09, 2026

They have since retaliated by "reporting" me from one of their "experts" for "Unprofessional Behavior" and that I "used offensive and targeted comments" on January 1st, 2026. They are "committed to providing a 'safe', 'ethical' environment for their 'employees' and 'partners'".

And, to 'honor' this commitment, they have asked me to remain professional and respectful when seeking support.

They have threatened to document my account for future behaviors and have threatened to "terminate" my "live support" ability to "Access their experts". - Office of the President

Original review Dec 30, 2025
Not only did they submit an un-cashable check. When I complained they said "there's nothing we can do" according to Caitlin D.

I also performed a security audit and they claimed "LLM Slop Nonsense".

And Intuit Inc. to this day thinks okay to continue to deliver the same Ads that caused the loss in the first place.

I too spoke with someone in the “OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT” as first thing they said to me upon calling was that they were concerned about the emails I sent, because I told them I was contacting the FDIC. I wouldn’t be surprised if I too got banned.

Last I remember we had freedom of speech and complaining about a companies incompetence to make others aware it in no way a reason to ban someone from us in their services that we all get scammed into paying all sorts of made up fees after advertising it’s FREE TO FILE!! If I were you, file a complaint with the FDIC, they will respond in a timely fashion, as they are required to by law, and I would also let me know how they have banned you or threatened to ban you because you “complained”!! THAT IS NOT OK, AND THAT IS UNETHICAL IF YOU ASK ME!! They are basically blackmailing you!

I would file a lawsuit against the bastards! The office of the President people are RUDE AND THEIR HELP IS AS *** AS SPEAKING TO ONE OF THE SEASONAL WORKERS WHO ARE READING SCRIPTS OR INFO FROM THE IRS AND TURBO TAX WEBSITE!

Turbo tax has errors with nys

AI Highlights
  • - TurboTax is hard to use without tax know-how.
  • - Answering questions can affect the return.
  • - A state tax amount appeared taxable though it wasn't.

Turbo tax sucks if I wasnt an auditor for years I would never have been able to figure it out. Your fed is so frustratingly hard to know what to answer.

That its easy to put wrong check mark and throws your whole state return off.

I almost freaked when it said I owned state 2172 when I knew it was all non taxable to state. I think youre trying to push people who dont know taxes well into Pauling additional $60 to speak to a live person.

User's recommendation: Go back to fed and change your choices and see if state due changes.

  • - I qualify for free filing.

  • - Charged $200 for expert advice I didn’t get.
  • - There is no in-app support.
Updated by user Apr 01, 2026

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund.

Original review Mar 31, 2026
I qualify for the free to file tax return option (1040-EZ) because of the amount of income I made last year as well as the fact that I don't itemize any deductions. I have also been using TurboTax since about 2018 or earlier.

This is the first year that I filed, and they added $200 for expert filing advice that I never received. The whole time I was filing, it said that advice was included; I never received any help or advice. My total tax return was only supposed to be $800. So after being charged the $90 I was supposed to pay (even though it says you file for free), TurboTax added another $200 for expert filing advice, even though I filed the entire tax return myself, leaving me with only about $500, wtf.

TurboTax is turning into a complete scam. Run, don’t walk, and find another option just like I have to do now with only two weeks left to file my taxes because they added this random fee and then told me it could not be removed when I called in. OAN, there’s absolutely no customer service option available in the app. Only pay for help options.

I had to literally Google TurboTax customer service to find a number to call them, just for the rep to tell me that the $200 expert filing advice fee is now standard on every return regardless of filing type and cannot be removed.

Intuit TurboTax is a scam, and they should be ashamed to operate so sneakily with them being such a large and profitable company. I hope they go bankrupt.
Pros:
  • Accurate preparation
Cons:
  • Cost
  • Sneaky

Preferred solution: Price reduction

I definitely did not “opt in” to any extra services. I also tried to remove it before checking out and could not, so I called customer service… that’s when I was told that the “expert advice” fee was mandatory as of 2026 and could not be removed. Total up charge SCAM!!!

Totally inadequate Performance of Turbo Tax

AI Highlights
  • - 2025 Turbotax version is unsatisfactory.
  • - Costco purchase; download won't activate on Windows 11; help search is unhelpful; considering H&R Block.

I have used Turbotax for almost 20 years and was very satisfied until now. Your 2025 version is crap!

I purchased it at Costco and all it does is download a file that doesn't activate the software. I tried multiple times with the same result. Note I am using a Windows 11 version on my PC. Searching for help is just an aggravation; it mostly is a collection of verbiage that does not address the problem.

Huge waste of my time! Next step I will be downloading the H&R Block software; it is rated much higher than Turbotax junk!

Pros:
  • Used to be good
Cons:
  • Lack of support to there customers

Preferred solution: Apology

They lied about the new and costlier online version being able to handle a foreign pension that the old CD version could.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Online Deluxe could not handle my UK pension.
  • - Premier could handle it, but was provided free.
  • - Advisors could not fix it; a misentry caused an audit.
Original review updated Mar 24, 2026

My wife and I used the CD version of TurboTax Standard on Windows 10 in Canada for years with little problem, including for my U.K. pension.

Last year, Microsoft stopped Windows 10 support, and TurboTax announced that they will only handle the 2025 tax year on Windows 11. We also understood that the online version of TT was now the way to go. So we got new computers with Windows 11 but no CD tray. According to TT, the online equivalent of TT Standard for CDs was Deluxe.

So we got that for $45 CAD. It could not handle my U.K. state pension. I called TT and was told that only the Premier version could.

They were nice enough to send me that for free (normal purchase price $100). You would not believe the trouble we had trying to get it to accept the pension in a way that added it to our pension splitting. We spoke to four different TurboTax advisors, to no avail. The last one eventually had to admit they could not do it, but the professional version could ...

for $1000! That is not only false advertising, but the higher version costs over double! So we used a tax accountant ... no problem!

But we used the TT we had for our son's simpler situation.

That resulted in a child support amount we input into the personal profile section being entered on the tax form as a figure that was three times higher, which then prompted a tax audit! We will never again use TurboTax - a complete waste of time and money.

Loss:
$45
Pros:
  • Step by step process is easy and helpful
Cons:
  • Online versions costlier and do less than the older cd versions

Preferred solution: Don't want to waste any more time with them. Just want other consumers to be aware of the pitfalls.

User's recommendation: Don't waste your money on the more expensive online versions of TurboTax that can do less than the older and cheaper CD versions.

Can't find out how to get refund

Will use another company. I applied for refund but haven't got my money back !! It's been a week and they told me 72 hours.

Original review Mar 25, 2026
I filed a simple 1040EZ federal tax form today with them. I'm on Social Security and wasn't sure if I should file, so I did.

Getting back a whole $25.00 and that's okay, that's not my issue. The fee was going to be $40.00, so I said what the heck, I'll go ahead and file and be out of $15.00. Came to the part where you pay, and it says, 'Easy just take it out of your refund!' Well... I'm only getting $25.00 back, so I just opted to pay with a debit card.

Then... I looked at my receipt and they charged me $284.04 for a simple filing! Immediately gone from my bank account. Spoke with a non-English speaking person (difficult) and was told that he was emailing me a form for a refund and to allow up to 72 hours after filing it.

The form asks for a corresponding email and won't accept it! This is the same email that he sent the info to and requested a number from the email that was sent to me (no such number in the email). Why do I have to go through this to get my money back that they took from me immediately without my knowing? Any suggestions?

I'm going to continue to post until I get my money back...

You clearly misread something and made a mistake. The online version of TurboTax Deluxe is $283, so it seems very likely that is what you used. Always read the fine print.

  • - Tried a refund advance from a big company; opened CK and savings; re-submitted after a typo; no advance prompts; it cost me, and I may pursue action.

Like many of us in the food/delivery industry and many others, the first couple months of the new year are always slow and pay is almost cut in half. This year, I decided to give one of the big companies a try who were offering an advance, especially since I get a healthy return every year.

I searched and landed here. I literally started with specifically searching the refund advance, clicking get started under the banner for the advance, filled in every thing asked, opened up a new account through CK and even opened a savings to be safe. I fat fingerd a number on my kids ss first time around so I re submitted and went through the entire process again, checking everything. I never had any further prompt about the advance so I continued on filing and all was submitted and accepted ( prerequisite for getting approved or denied) and still nothing.

Ended up costing me quite a bit coming out of my return to file with them. I met every qualification listed and did every single prompt. I took my time to make sure I did it right so this kinda thing wouldnt happen. I am very seriously considering using some of my return to hire an attorney to look over everything as I feel I was lied to and intentionally misdirected just so they would get $$ from me.

It's very criminal and I encourage all the many in the same boat to consider doing the same. Not only to get anything back you can but on principal. We are all constantly getting screwed over by these big companies and they will get worse until we tell them no.

If I do, and win, I promise to make as public as possible so it can be sited for others doing the same. Prime example of how we are being used.

"I never had any further prompt about the advance.. ".

As another said, that's because the SS# error kicked you out of the advance loan filing and rerouted you back to standard e-filing. You paid the fee for E-filing and deposit in 2 weeks. The refund advance loan which is 1-2 days would be more than $150.

You are so hard up for money that you're willing to pay hundreds for the advance and were careless. You are getting exactly what you paid for.

Guest

think off top my head the advanced fee was like 35 or something dollars , not a exact number but my guess from memory think a attorney will cost you more than that second you are the one filling in the information if not correct or valid that falls on you

Guest

People who have to pay exorbitant fees for a cash advance tax refund are in no position to have an attorney. Stop lying.

Guest

You would be absolutely right of there was any kinda advance.. and thats my point exactly.

It was all bullahit to get me to give them 100s of dollars. Get it yet? It's lying to get people's money.

The basis of nfcs, pyramid schemes, etc... thank "god" and intellectual such as yourself came along to help me prove a point

Guest

It sounds like someone didn't bother to read the terms that they accepted. You agreed to binding arbitration so there will be no lawsuit.

You also never said if you were denied. If so, why? My first guess if you were denied is that you don't meet the income requirement. Someone raising kids on a gig job that can and will go down as the economy does may fit their idea of someone who will pay them back.

Places like this see people like you coming from a mile away and are ready to take the (non-refundable per the terms you agreed to) wager that you'll actually qualify for an advance. If you had the juice to qualify for a refund anticipation LOAN, you would have gone to your bank or credit union instead of a hustle like this. To summarize, you BET $100s of dollars against what you already know about your situation and lost. It would have been better to get a scratcher at the gas station.

There will be no lawsuit. If there is, it will be a class action that drags out years and you will only get a few buck.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2813928

I didn't help you prove any point. Your data entry mistake that made you start over took you back to the regular e-file page.

Whatever fees you did pay were not for a cash advance refund.

You are getting a refund in their normal time frame. My point was if you were willing to pay exorbitant cash advance fees for a 48- hour refund (vs two weeks e-filing), you don't have the money to pay an attorney nor are you in a position to waste any money from your return.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2814145

You absolutely did help me prove my point.. 100%.

It wasn't a mistake on my end, the support team admitted this is a " glitch" in their system.. and you obviously can't read very well.. would i spend 10-15% of my return to make my point? Yup.

Absolutely would. Your pretty dumb if yournbkt seeing the issues and maybe stick your tolling to people your own age and let the adults handle these things before these companies get worse and you kids get screwed even worse than us. Go back to your video games and try trolling someone else.

And for anyone else reading this and wondering, search up turbotax reviews anywhere but their page... pretty obvious.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2813928

Sorry bet@, but the only dumb one is you. You post without proofreading, make ridiculous arguments, screw up your refund and blame others.

If the company admitted a glitch, you would have posted that to begin with. Instead you're whining because you are stuck in a dead end loser job.

  • - Was easy to use and helped save on taxes, but later became less user friendly.
  • - Switched to HRBlock; pricier but worth it with live help (Steve Subka).

Was a fan at the start. Easy to use, and I learned about how to save money on taxes.

Gradually it became less user friendly. And not useful for anything at all complicated.

Switched to HRBlock. More expensive, but definitely worth it. You deal with a live person (shout-out to Steve Subka in Baraboo!).

He's showed us lots of ways to reduce our taxes for next year, and to make more money with where we put our money. Our taxes (we're retirees) are too complicated for TurboTax.

Plus HRBlock is way less work.

As soon as you've gathered up your tax statements you're done. No more spending hours hunched over a computer.

Pros:
  • Relatively inexpensive
Cons:
  • Not good for anything complicated
  • Has gotten too hard to use

User's recommendation: Avoid TurboTax unless you have extremely easy taxes.

Getting conflicting Tax filing status info from Turbo Tax

After several attempts to talk to a human, I gave up and contacted the IRS directly to verify my tax information that the Turbo Tax AI or phone system could not. I got conflicting information from the Turbo app and Turbo texts telling me conflicting info.

Turbo customer service is worse than the DMV. I plan to buy a different software next year.

Original review Mar 10, 2026

I have tried several times to contact a human at Turbo Tax asking a simple question; "were my returns filed?". The TX deluxe told me the IRS has accepted my return, but I keep getting texts an emails that I have not filed yet.

Which is it?

The customer service sucks. All I get is an AI voice wanting irrelevant info, and in the one instance I did get a human, his connection broke up and hung up on me.

Bad Customer Service For CPA'S Tax Return

AI Highlights
  • - -Used TurboTax for 4 years; last year the CPA was hard to reach and I paid for unnecessary services, then filed free after IRS guidance and amended.
Original review updated Mar 13, 2026

I used TurboTax for about 4 years because I felt my taxes were not difficult, since I no longer worked or had a business. Last year was a disaster because the CPA was hard to reach.

The phone calls were AI-generated and difficult to handle because I waited until the last minute to do them, and I had only a week to get them in. After feeling all along that their system was generating things I did not need, having me pay the IRS upfront for the next year, I called the IRS, and they told me to go online and look at the free tax services, where I could file for free. And that's exactly what I did this year, because I was ripped off paying for services I did not need and had to amend the taxes right before filing last year.

My taxes were not that complicated, and I did them myself. Shame on TurboTax.

Loss:

Pros:
  • Easy to enter on my info
Cons:
  • Not that easy to used if not a tax professional

Preferred solution: Yes, thousands, but that's been paid, want them to go over my taxes to see if I am owed a refund by a Qualified CPA

User's recommendation: I suggest looking around for places that help low income people file for free and if you are computer savvy consider other places that help you by going step by step to file avoid paying money you don't have.

AI Highlights
  • - Account sign-in freezes after downloading prior year tax data.
  • - AI-based phone support doesn't connect to tech help; may switch to H&R tax filing.

After account sign in account freezes, cannot continue. All help is based on account access.

After initial download of pervious years tax information the page is frozen and cannot continue. Phone contact is AI and does not help connect to technical support. I have used Turbo Tax for several years without problem.

Spent several hours trying to resolve. I will be looking into H&R tax filing, this problem is not resolved soon.

Pros:
  • Have used turbo tax for over 5 years
  • Confidence in program
  • Used for several years without any problems
Cons:
  • Ai cannot answer all problems
  • No way to contact live chat email live agent

Preferred solution: My account to work properly.

User's recommendation: Maybe Tubro Tax is too big and relies on AI too much.

Thank you for any suggestions or help you can give me. Linda Cottrill
